Richard Dupont: In Direction - A new installation

Nov 14 - Jan 31, 2009
Opening: Thursday, November 13, 6-8pm

Carolina Nitsch Project Room presents IN DIRECTION, a new installation by Richard Dupont and the first exhibition of the artist at the gallery.

The installation consists of three large figures cast in polyurethane surrounded by mirrored panels which transform the exhibition space into a quasi-virtual, interactive environment. Presented in the storefront Project Room, the installation suggests a staged experience, albeit an inverted one, with the activity of the street outside brought inside, and the room itself expanded into a four dimensional spatial riddle.

Richard Dupont recently presented a major installation, "Terminal Stage" at The Lever House in New York City, which is the subject of a new monograph just published by Charta. Through December 21st Dupont has a solo museum exhibition, "Between Stations", at the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art (HVCCA). His work is in numerous collections including The Museum of Modern Art and The Whitney Museum of American Art. Born in 1968, the artist lives and works in New York City.

The Armory Show - The International Fair of New Art, has been the world's leading art fair devoted exclusively to contemporary art since its introduction in 1999. The fair is the successor to the highly acclaimed Gramercy International Art Fairs that attracted thousands to their New York, Los Angeles and Miami shows between 1994 and 1998.

The Armory Show was first presented in February 1999 at the 69th Regiment Armory, the site of the now-legendary Armory Show of 1913 that introduced Modern art to America. The fair became part of the Merchandise Mart family in 2007. .

Articles about The Armory Show are available in the Press Room section of this site.
